Our view
The honest verdict
Keep your drains and valleys clear, and tarp an emergency if you can do it safely — both are sensible. Where DIY and handyman work goes wrong is on anything that needs a permit or touches the waterproofing layer, because an unpermitted repair can void a manufacturer warranty and give a carrier a reason to argue about a later claim. The sealant is cheap; the argument is not.
